Artist Statement:
This project was harder for me than the previous one. I have very little experience with art in audio form, most of which is related to songwriting and recording. This assignment was explicitly not supposed to be a song, or similar to what we typically consider music to sound like. With that being said, this project was out of my comfort zone and I often found myself having to take out and remake certain parts that sounded too much like music. I wanted my piece to be reminiscent of 80's videogames from Japan with a macabre and unsettling undertone. I am partially happy with how it turned out, but I think it also could have been better. I ended up leaning further into the galactic theme than I had initially planned, which I think still works, but I wish I had found a way to create more classic 8 bit and video game sounds without a specific theme. I do feel this is partially due to just working with a smaller folder of audio files, but i do also feel I could have found a way to transform and create new sounds using effects. I also received critiques from a few people that my piece lacks a clear climax or storyline, which I retrospectively agree with and wish I would have paid closer attention to that during the making of this piece. Overall, I would like to play around more with this software on my own time, but with the restrictions of the assignment I feel like I did alright.
